Now that we’re good, let’s follow the step-by-step guide to building a WordPress blog. A blog to generate income as fast as possible.

Note: If you have an existing blog, you can skip to the blog monetization section of this guide. But if you’re just starting from scratch, continue reading.

Steps to Make Money With a WordPress Blog

If you want to build a WordPress blog that will make you money as fast as possible, you need to follow these steps.

These are the steps I followed to create a blog. It has also been proven to be one of the fastest ways to get a blog to a good start.

Pick a Niche

Picking the right niche is the first step to a successful online business. You need to target a specific market or audience.

How big or small the niche is determines the blog’s success or failure.

If the niche is small and few people blog in that direction, that could signify an industry with minimum spending power.

But if the niche is big and many websites blogging on the topic, that’s a positive sign of a valuable market.

We can’t distinguish a profitable niche from a not-so-good niche with our two naked eyes. We need a keyword tool to help us out.

I have used a few keyword tools in my online career; Semrush and Rank Tracker from SEO Powersuite are my favorites.

You need one of these tools to research the market and pick the right niche for your WordPress blog.

How to Pick a Niche With Keyword Research

First, list things you’re good at in real life. These could be talking, arguments, jokes, laughing, traveling, carpentry, nursing, mathematics, sports, etc.

Don’t bother if something on your list doesn’t make sense to you at this stage. Just put as many possibilities down on paper.

When you explore your options, head over to the Semrush keyword magic or SEO Powersuite Rank Tracker.

Note: Rank Tracker is a desktop-based software. You download and install it on your personal computer. Both Semrush and Rank Tracker offer a forever free user account, so you don’t have to worry about the financial cost.

Enter your list of options in the keyword tool, select your target location, and hit the search button. Here are the keyword metrics to pay attention to:

  • Search volume
  • Cost per click
  • Search trend
  • Competition in search results
  • Keyword difficulty

At this stage, we are not looking for a content topic to write about but to get an idea of how big and profitable our niche could be.

If the search volume is trending upward, that’s even better. And if the cost per click is high, we are in a lucrative industry.

If these two metrics are as expected, the competition will be high. There will be lots of websites that write on relevant niche topics.

The more competitive a niche is, the more difficult it will be to rank your content on SERP. But as you explore more keyword opportunities, you will begin to discover easy-to-rank keywords you can target with your content.

Domain Name and Web Hosting

The next step is registering your domain name and purchasing a web hosting plan. There is no big deal here, and registering a new domain name and hosting does not cost much.

Picking a good domain name is not rocket science; you can use your name if you’re comfortable with that. And if you want to build a personal long-term blog business. Alternatively, you can use a niche keyword + a word.

For example, www.blogginglion.com – in this example, “blogging” is the niche keyword, and “lion” is a supporting word. You can use these tips to come up with a few domain names. Check for availability from Namecheap.

If you purchase web hosting from any of the web hosts I recommend in this post (NameCheap or Bluehost), you get a free 1-year domain name registration.

Yes, your first-year domain name registration fee is on the web host. And you get even more hosting features for free:

  • Free SSL certificate
  • Website Builder
  • up to 51% discount on your first invoice with Namecheap
  • CDN
  • Unmetered bandwidth
  • SSD storage
  • One-click WordPress install
  • Unlimited websites for the second-tier hosting plans
  • 24/7 supports

Install WordPress theme

Next on our list is to install a fast WordPress theme like Astra.

Install WordPress plugins

You need to install WordPress themes that help extend the functionality of your WordPress blog. The plugins you download and install will depend on the type of blog you set up.

But for many WordPress blogs, these plugins are the must-have:

You can check what your competitors use by searching through the page source code or doing a simple Google search for your niche keyword + best plugin.

For example, the best WordPress plugin for a travel blog and the best WordPress plugins for tech blogs. As you do this, note common plugins on all the pages.

This is how you discover new plugins to try on your blog.

Write Your first content.

We are progressing at a fast pace and are about to get your blog on the internet.

Once you’ve set up your blog design, installed relevant plugins, and are good with the look, it’s time to publish your first content.

If you’re confident in your writing skills, you can do this task yourself, but outsourcing is a better choice if you’re not a good writer now.

Since starting this blog to earn money as quickly as possible, you need to start with quality content from day 1.

This is why I would advise that if you have not written a WordPress blog before, consider hiring someone who can write a good copy for you on relevant niche topics.

A good place to find freelance writers at an affordable price is Fiverr. Fiverr is a marketplace for freelancers to offer their services for hire. Go to Fiverr and research the gig to find a suitable profile with which you can work.

Promote Your Blog

If you don’t promote your blog, no one will find it. You must develop a content marketing strategy to get people to your website.

For a start, you will need to leverage the social media platforms, forums, competitors’ websites, your social circle, etc.

Remember to also add social sharing buttons to your website. It helps and makes it easy for your reader to share your content with their followers.

If you want to go big on driving traffic to your money pages, investing in paid ads might be a better option.

You can start with Facebook ads to test your audience and content. If you target the right audience, Facebook ads are cheap and drive better results.

You won’t get traffic from the search engines at this stage, so your only alternative is the social media platforms and referral traffic. So, share your content as much as possible to extend your reach.

Monetize Your Content

If you will make money with WordPress in 48 hours or less, this is where it all lies. The monetization tactics you explore will depend on several other factors.

For example, there is no point in running Adsense or any other display advertising network on your blog if you’re going to make money in 48 hours.

You can not earn a decent income from advertising on a brand-new blog in 48 hours.

On average, it takes many blogs 6 to 12 months to generate meaningful income from anything displayed in advertising. So we’re not going out look in that direction for this purpose.

Let’s explore other options that are more realistic to our goal of making money with WordPress in 48 hours.

Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is more realistic for our goal, but you must work harder and think upfront before creating your blog.

Many affiliate programs are more likely to accept blogs with decent traffic, engagements, and a good number of posts.

Since you’re starting new with fewer blog posts and less traffic, you need to search for affiliate programs that don’t require establishing blogs as part of the acceptance policy.

From experience, I believe in-house affiliate programs are better options here. Some merchants automatically accept paying customers into their affiliate programs, irrespective of whether they have a blog. These are the types of affiliate programs you should look out for.

Here are some options I have experience with:

  • AI Copywriting vendors – sign up with relevant AI copywriting vendors and enrol in their affiliate program. Most AI vendors don’t ask for your blog URL during signup.
  • Tourism industry – If you run a travel blog, you can sign up with companies to help promote their business. In some cases, this does not require having a blog.
  • Events – If you’re part of an upcoming event, you can sign up for the affiliate program and help promote it.

Selling a Product

You don’t have to create the product yourself; you can partner with marketers in your niche and directly sell their products on your blog. How you go about this depends on your existing connections.

But it could help you make some decent income from the blog if done right. If you’re promoting an existing popular product to a new audience, it will certainly take some effort on your side to get people to buy it, but give it a try.

Offer a Service

Offering your services to your audience can be a good way to earn as fast as possible. People who are interested in your service will contact you and make inquiries.

If you position yourself as an expert and clearly explain how you can help solve a particular problem, you can get clients quickly. Your blog is a better place to showcase your expertise and convince potential clients to work with you.

I recommend you have an about me page and a hire me page.

The About Me page should give a detailed background of who you are, how you discovered your online passion, and how you’ve evolved over time to reach this level.

The hire me page will clearly explain your area of expertise, how you intend to work with clients, your working rate, price, job description, requirements to begin the job, and every other necessary detail.

FAQ – How to Make Money With WordPress in 48 Hours

How long does it take to make money on WordPress?

On average, it takes many bloggers 6 -12 months before seeing any monetary value in their blogging career. And that also depends on factors like time, efforts, marketing strategy, audience size, and monetization tactics they’ve put into building the blog.

You could spend 18 months on your blog and still don’t earn anything from it. If you’re not doing the right things consistently, you may have little to nothing to show for your blogging efforts.

How many views do you need to make money on WordPress?

Pageviews are not a determinant factor in making money on WordPress unless you run a blog for Adsense and other display advertising. If advertising is your monetization strategy, then generating 50,000 to 100,000 views per month is the ideal count to start making money on WordPress.

Conclusion…

You need to set a realistic goal of making money with WordPress. Trying to do this in two days if you’re a beginner to blogging is not even close to getting it right.

You need time to get used to your blogging environment and master the art of writing good copy.

Also, you need to learn content marketing, as this is one of the biggest factors that lead to success or failure in online marketing. But you can always outsource content marketing tasks to a better capable hand.

I have given you the road map to making money with WordPress in 48 hours; it is now for you to take on the challenge.
